Senior Infants were learning all about strawberries and how they grow. The also planted out their seedlings in our school garden.

5th & 6th class made parachutes using different materials and with the help of our trusted caretaker they got to see them fall from the roof.

 

Junior and senior infants have been working on their math skills using ready set go maths.

 

 

 

Senior infants were learning about the farm. They loved learning about the animals that live on the farm and how to be safe when out and about on the farm.

Senior infants love their Aistear and were showing some impressive constructions.

First class were doing more hands-on activities when learning about data in maths.

First class were doing some hands-on maths activities when they were learning how to measure.

3rd / 4th Class were very lucky to get to investigate light and how it splits into all the colours of the rainbow. They learnt about light, sound, dispersion and they even got to play with a peppergram which created a type of hologram.

The children in 5th and 6th learned how to administer CPR. They were really surprised at how much force needs to be applied to perform CPR properly.

 

Fionn & Jonathan taught the junior infants a lot about the mammals of Ireland. The infants really enjoyed their visit.

 

4th class got to investigate the effect heat has on various metals.

1st class were checking the quality of our local river water by examining the insects that live in it. We are glad to report that our local water is not polluted. The children had to identify the insects caught using a chart.

1st class were investigating energy and forces with their balloon cars.

We learned how to dissect a squid and to recognise all its parts. When we were finished we got to write our name in the squids ink.

The whole school got to meet and play with Ohbot the robot head at our Science fair. We got to play knock knock jokes with it.

3rd class were explaining to us how clouds are made. They showed us a cool experiment to demonstrate.

Ms O Malley and her class investigated different soil samples taken from different areas. They observed them over a number of days to see the difference.

5th class, along with the rest of the school made pancakes for Pancake Tuesday and explored the effects of heat on liquids. They were delicious!

We planted some apple trees in honour of our dear colleague Aingeal who sadly passed away recently #treesforaingeal

Sue showed us the science behind bubbles and even showed us how to make bouncy bubbles. It was amazing !!

Video Making

5th Class had great fun making videos during “Buddies NOT bullies” week. We made a video to explain what bullying is to the younger classes in the school and we made another video about cyberbullying for the older classes.

5th class have also been taking part in Google’s CS First program. They are very busy working at their own pace on their scratch projects.

Nearpod & Seesaw

5th class have their own class blog on Seesaw. We use it for homework and sometimes to record ourselves speaking Irish. Our teacher often posts Maths word problems that we can work on and answer for rewards like a piece of written homework off. During the “beast from the east” we also posted some photos of our snowmen.

Nearpod is an app that we use in class. It allows our teacher to create lessons and we can either do the lesson together in class or as a self paced lesson. We had a virtual reality trip of the Louvre when we were talking about France in our class. Its a really enjoyable way of learning.
