3rd class really enjoyed gathering conkers from around the school grounds and learning the rules of the game “conker war”. The children learned all about the native trees and their seeds in their pursuit to find conkers.
Dogs trust came to visit our school to educate the children on how to properly care for a dog. We also found out what we should do in the event that a dog became overly excited. A very enjoyable and informative day.
Junior infants had great fun making jelly hands and seeing how the materials used turn from a liquid to a jelly mould.
3rd Class had great fun making and testing their rockets. They tested different shapes and materials to see which ones responded the best.
This year for science week we were lucky enough to get to host the exploration dome in our school. The children were able to explore the deep ocean and outer space in this wonderful dome.
2nd class were busy investigating number and using a ruler as a line of symmetry. They had to recreate the rest of the picture on the other side of the symmetry line (ruler). They had great fun and it really helped them learn all about symmetry.
Last year we took part in an initiative where we tested the air quality in our area using tubes sent to us by GLOBE. We compared our results last year to other schools around Ireland. We were one of 26 schools to take part and had the cleanest air ! This year we took part again but due to COVID 19 we are still awaiting results. It will be interesting to compare our results from this year with last year’s results.
5th class took part in the maths week challenges posted online. They were quite challenging this year and tested even the strongest of our mathematicians !!
5th class are extremely lucky to have a very kind and caring pupil amongst them. One of our 5th class children rescued a hedgehog, learned all about a hedgehog’s habitat and what foods they should eat and re-created that habitat at home until the hedgehog was well enough to return to the wild.
One of our eagle eyed pupils sent us a photo of a very rare albino pheasant that they spotted at home in their back garden. When we contacted birdwatch Ireland they confirmed that the bird indeed was a rare albino pheasant and gave us some interesting facts about it.
5th class were very lucky to have had a visit from a local company during EU code week.
SAP employees came into our class and the other 5th class in the school to do an introduction to coding. It was excellent and the children really enjoyed it.
The infants really enjoyed blowing bubbles today. Did you know that it helps to build muscles in your body and that this helps with our speech. You really have to learn to control your breath to get some big bubbles!!
The infants had great fun finding seeds from trees in our school grounds. They brought them back into class and compared them to apple seeds. The conkers were much bigger!
Junior infants examined their unique fingerprints when they were learning the letter ‘f’. They had fun using the magnifying glass to see their fingerprints up close.
2nd class had great fun designing and creating catapults from Lego. They really used their imagination and came up with some fabulous designs. Testing them was the best part for sure!
2nd class had great fun creating 3D shapes with toothpicks and marshmallows. They were also allowed to draw on the tables to classify the 3D shapes. They listed all the properties they could think of under each shape. Very clever of them!
2nd class had fun sorting numbers into odds and evens. They did a great job.
Senior Infants had great fun exploring tangrams and geoboards during math stations.
3rd class were busy planting seeds, they planted different types of flowers to see which seeds would germinate first.
